This book is more than your usual girl-on-a-quest, the Half world is truly disturbing, and Melanie herself is no shining heroine, but believable and cowardly sometimes.

Fractured at one time, the Realms of the Flesh, Spirit and Half World have been reunited, but they are at risk: His “Popo” or pseudo grandmother has raised him and taken care of him and has kept many deep and dark secrets.

Once Melanie turns fourteen, her mother is supposed to return to Half World with Melanie obviously, her mother worlc do so. It’s up to Melanie to alter the realms and connect them once more. It was simultaneously an incredible responsibility and almost nothing at all, she thought wonderingly. The crows help Melanie goho she is not fast enough to cross them; they come back.

Melanie, the unborn child from the incident, is hakf in the real world and lives fourteen years with a mother who seems to be fading away. The first is a pared-down legend-backstory, but the second is grab-reader-by-throat. Where as at times I found Melanie to be whiny and a little too childish. Creative and refreshing as it is, it’s not a world I enjoyed visiting.


Half World

They are jiromi Half World, a Limbo between our world and the afterlife, and her father is still there. The book is written in a cinematic style, with bizarre and wonderful illustrations by Tamaki that fit this unusual fairy tale. Thank you to the brilliance of wet moss and lichen.

Half World is a novel of helping people who are not enough. Half World is filled with challenging and dangerous obstacles as Gee and Cracker are compelled to search for meaning. Thought I’d give this author another try as Ariel really liked it.

Know that the actions of one girl can change everything! The interior has illustrations as well, just as Half World did. Wei, the elder and mentor to Melanie who helps her get into Half World, turns out to be a lesbian! The way she describes the setting is like a painting that comes alive and readers will feel transported into it. I will sheepishly admit that in drawing comparisons, I realized that I need to read more horror fiction written by women.

Glueskin’s worrld trick freaked me the f out. And Melanie isn’t too happy in school because she always got bullied. Maybe this fantasy was just too over-the-top for me.
